About the Gananoque River Paddle Trail

The portages necessary to transition from one section of the river to the next, as in the guide, have not been formally established. Discussions are underway to allow for carrying paths and entry facilities. Therefore, the guide breaks the trip on the river into sections, and suggests places where paddlers can find a reasonable access at the present time. This website and guide will be updated as access and portage points are added or altered. It is possible though to transition from one section to the next, and available access points are noted in the guide sections.

Respecting Private Lands

Please note that while the river itself is a public waterway, the lands along the length of the river are almost entirely privately owned. Those lands in public ownership are illustrated on guide section maps, and described in the text. Please show all the respect and courtesy to the lands and landowners along the routes as you would expect for your own property. Land only where the guide shows there to be public access, do not start fires and of course, “pack in – pack out” as you would on any such route. The courtesy you extend today ensures that this route will be available to future paddlers.
